are - ใช้กับคำนามพหูพจน์ (มีหลายคน หรือหลายสิ่ง) และ You

a - ใช้กับคำนามนับได้เอกพจน์ที่ขึ้นต้นด้วยพยัญชนะ 

แต่มีข้อยกเว้นสำหรับบางคำเช่น hour 

an - ใช้กับคำนามนับได้เอกพจน์ที่ขึ้นต้นด้วยสระ

แต่มีข้อยกเว้นสำหรับบางคำเช่น user 
**คำนามนับได้เอกพจน์คือ นับแล้วมีแค่ 1 หน่วย
